Our board consists of women from a diverse background.
Womenspace is a place for women to come together in an inclusive community built on diversity, kindness and respect.
We are a solely independent women’s organisation with no affiliation to an external body.
I bring experience as a refugee from communist Czechoslovakia 50 years ago; later as a mother of a child with disability; originally as an actor, later as a community cultural developer, and festivals and events director. My current practice is focused on the importance of stories, especially stories of women who are transitioning in their lives – when the role of mothers, wives, employees is changing, when these women are finding new meaning. Having the opportunity to belong to the Women Space team and contribute to developing this community is important for my own transition. I am grateful for being a part of creating the Women Space stories.
I have a been a resident of Brisbane for 14 years and currently live in Woody Point. My background is in Community Development and Events. I have had over 30 years experience in leading volunteer community oranisations and enjoy the challenge of sharing and creating a Womenspace with vision, passion and purpose. I enjoy the sense of belonging and connection I feel in being a part of a truly heartfelt and welcoming community organisation. My other love is working with women, babies and families. I am a Doula, Childbirth Educator and Nanny.
Womenspace welcomes Kerrie MacDonald to the 2020 board as the new treasurer. With a background in book keeping, Kerrie keeps life balance with crystal healing, Reiki and is an Aroma Zen Practitioner. She enjoys swimming and walking and has 14 amazing grand children.
Lyn is a long time resident of Brisbane and has recently left work and is now transitioning into a new way of life. She fantasises about time in the garden and a neat clean house, but finds lunches and time spent with her woman friends much more interesting. Lyn brings a great sense of humour and fun to our board!
After 40 odd years in various organisations as a Projects officer and finance officer, she brings her well rounded organisational skills to the Womenspace management team.
Womenspace welcomes Bernadette McShane to the board. Bernadette is local in Shorncliffe, enjoys walking and gardening and has a special talent for playing the tabla (Indian drum) and piano.
Hi everyone, I’m relatively new to the Sandgate area and I love living in this beautiful community. I have a passion for assisting people to live their best life, encompassing holistic health and well-being. The idea of creating meaningful interactions with others brings me real joy. A little about my career, which has included being a mum (of whom are now young adults), a primary school teacher, interior decorator, I’ve worked in a multidisciplinary Allied Health team as a social worker, and also with young people living with a disability or mental health challenge in their life. I currently work as a Community Support Coordinator with a team of volunteers who share in my passion for community development and building true connection.
Womenspace welcomes Kerry Duff to the 2020 board. Kerry is local to the Sandgate area and is a massage practitioner with a focus on indigenous health. Kerry is an ex nurse and enjoys sailing, walking by the sea and being in her garden.
