Women Weaving Stories
April 14, 2023 @ 6:30 pm - 8:30 pm
A series of panel discussions in which women who make a contribution to the wellbeing and positive lives of women in Sandgate and surrounding suburbs discuss some aspects of their life journey. A celebration of women’s lives and the diverse choices, challenges and successes that shape us – discussions to foster connections in our community.
Since its first panel discussion in our series in October 2021, 24 local women have shared with us ‘what made them’ – what events, people, environments built the person they are today.
The presenters on the evening of 14th April 2023 are two local artists – Karen Roberts and Jan Hutchison. Between the two of them there are six decades of creating art, as well as 5 children, 15 grandchildren and one great grandchild – quite a mob they influence!
Jan is working as a textile artist which is a follow on from her lifelong passion for fabrics and sewing. She is almost our neighbour just ten numbers down Second Avenue, co-owner of Bayside Gallery.
A large part of Karen’s practice is recycling old and found objects (which some people would refer to as ‘junk’) to create sculptures.
Karen and Jan have both collaborated, taught and learned from a diverse range of people. Their lives are full, never boring – they experiment with new ideas. They inspire others.
Join us for Women Weaving Stories #13. The evening will be facilitated as always by Ann Ingamells.
