Invitation to Women Weaving Stories
Friday, 14th June 2024 at 6pm for 6.30start
“Unlocking the doors to home”
Maggie Shambrook, presenter of the evening is a founding member of the Housing Older Women Movement, deeply committed to addressing issues rooted in societal structures. She believes in the possibility of positive change at all levels and values citizens’ perspectives on injustice and effective solutions.
Anna Heriot, facilitator of the evening: “My friend suggested to me to become a celebrant which drew on all the learnings of a rich life: a country childhood, marriage, family, alternative living, community work, psychodrama, sociodrama, and a deep interest in First Nations people and connection to country. I was inspired to make our own ceremonies, with our own cultures, poetry, music, and movement, in tune with our communities.”
Maggie and Anna invite us
– to bear witness and share stories of our troubles, and strategies related to the fact that we are a nation founded on dispossession and the shattering of families and communities
– to remind ourselves the time when Womenspace experienced four years of homelessness between the Kedron and Sandgate homes. On the way we (as a collective of various women where all are received) have experienced great generosity, love and gratitude, also meanness, attack and sabotage. And still we have prevailed!
Womenspace, 11 Second Avenue, Sandgate.
$5 (cash at the door – there will be a raffle as well) to support our programs.
‘A Celebrant’s Notebook’ by Anna Heriot will be available; $20 – 50:50 shared by the author and Womenspace
