Monthly workshops with Reema Naresh

Reema was very much engaged with the Womenspace a few years ago and then she retreated for a short period. A close family member’s and her own health was seriously challenged and Reema needed to withdraw from some parts of her community life to focus on what was most important – her family’s wellbeing.

During this pause she focused on selfcare. Her body was regaining strength and her thoughts focused on the life of her family within the local community.

Reema’s knowledge of spices and their therapeutic properties came forward with their inclusion to nourish her family’s health. Reema is a trained Ayurvedic Lifestyle Practitioner. Ayurveda is traditional Indian Medicine – which looks at health and wellbeing from a holistic perspective. She is also a trained yoga, breathwork and meditation teacher. Her education background is psychology. She works in the health sector.

Reema’s thoughts resonated with the thoughts of the nuns whose generosity enabled to support the ideals of women who created Womenspace more than 20 years ago. She contemplated sharing the knowledge, goodwill and kindness of the teachers in her life – and from all of this came her intention to share with us what helped her – cooking, yoga, meditation, and breathwork.

On 29 August you can join Reema in her offering – Chai Making Workshop, it is her first of 4 monthly offerings, followed by Meet Your Elemental Body Type – 19/9; Intuitive Cooking – 24/10; One Curry Paste For All – 21/11.

Womenspace renovations and Mural
As some of you spotted, the FIRST stage of our renovations began – a new ceiling and lighting to our downstairs space is completed!

We are in the final stages of negotiating various options and quotes for outside renovations of our house and need to prepare for the FINAL stage (after the outside of the house is painted) – a painting of a mural that would represent Womenspace to the outside world.

We are inviting Womenspace Members to attend a facilitated ‘Mural Ideas Development Workshop’ on Sunday 22 August at 3 – 5pm. The results of the workshop will be presented and discussed at the Womenspace Management Committee meeting.

We are looking very much towards this afternoon, please rsvp by Wednesday 18 August, so we are not caught short of cupcakes!

For those who are interested but unable to attend the Sunday workshop we will repeat the session during the Cuppa & Chat gathering on Wednesday 1 September 10am – 12noon.

The renovations include a replacement of the front staircase – to match the one at the back of the house. Keep that in mind when imagining the ideas for the mural.

We are very pleased with the interest in the mural project and the donation we’ve received to undertake it – the members of the Womenspace Management Committee are looking forward to meeting you at this workshop!

Introducing our Office Co-ordinator, Fiona Jones

Fiona is a champion for women’s issues, believes in power of connected women and their collective wisdom. She loves her job and pinches herself knowing that she is doing meaningful work – in such a beautiful old Queenslander on top of it! After years of living in Europe the Womenspace house reminds her all the time that she is at home – in Queensland.

One of Fiona’s highlights of the day is receiving an application or renewal request for the Womenspace membership. It’s easy to make her happy!

Fiona is in the office on Mondays and Wednesdays 8.30 – 11.30am and on Fridays 12 – 2pm.

Call for the return of the Garden Club

The garden ignores the lockdowns, adds flowers to the Cuppa&Chat table every Wednesday and brightens our Facebook Page. On the sunny winter days embraces the participants of the day-time Book Club (last Friday of the month), or the team of the Rainbow Speech Pathology at lunchtime. With arrival of Spring it will need little more loving care – please join the Garden Club, the garden will reward you with it’s colours, smells, companionship and dirty hands! Drop us a line if you are interested to find out more!
